Artist Opportunities with Upcoming Deadlines in March and April, 2021

Every month we compile a list of artist opportunities with open applications for artists in all disciplines. This month’s roundup includes fellowships for Native American visual artists, an opportunity for artists to explore the media of clay or cast metal, and a residency in Belgium for artists working in architecture.

We also created list of resources and ways to support Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities.


Houston Center for Contemporary Craft Artist Residency Program
Houston, Texas

The Houston Center is looking for artists who work with wood, glass, metal, fiber, clay, and mixed media. Artists will have access to studio space, cultural and professional development opportunities, a monthly stipend that includes a small housing/materials allowance, and more.

This residency program offers emerging artists free 24-hour access to printmaking facilities to develop new work and foster their artistic careers. Artists receive a $1,000 stipend, group exhibition opportunities, and more.

Artadia identifies innovative visual artists through an open application and supports them with unrestricted financial awards worth between $25,000 and $10,000. The Chicago cycle is open to visual artists living and working within any eligible counties.

Ucross Fellowship for Native American Visual Artists
Clearmont, Wyoming

Open to Native American visual artists at all stages in their professional careers, this fellowship offers a four-week residency in the fall, a stipend of $2,000, and a featured gallery exhibition at Ucross.

The Chautauqua School of Art residency program welcomes artists working in all disciplines who have yet to receive wide recognition of their work to apply for this residency. Curriculum is designed to break typically siloed disciplines from each other, embracing a full range of studio and pragmatic studies including professional development for artists, the art of pedagogy, archiving, and more.

Joint Space Award
San Francisco, California
Deadline: March 5, 2021

Hosted by the Minnesota Street Project Foundation, this award grants $5,000, plus up to $5,000 in materials budget to make work at during a residency at The Space Program San Francisco. The award is open to a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) individual artist or pair of collaborating artists.

The application for a Creative Capital Award opens starting February 1. Artists working in all disciplines are welcome to apply for $50,000 in project funding, networking opportunities, career development sessions, and more.

OneBeat Virtual Fellowship
Deadline: March 10, 2021

Musicians and sonic artists are invited to apply to this fellowship that comes with a $1,500  honorarium, a per diem for online work sessions, and, a small subsidy for technical support. Fellows will digitally convene with 70 musicians from up to 44 countries and territories in two separate virtual residencies.

Thoma Foundation Publication Grant

Thoma Foundation’s publication grants are designed for university and museum presses advancing scholarship in select disciplines like digital and electronic art. The grants assist with production-related expenses.

Asian Women Giving Circle Request for Proposals

Asian Women Giving Circle supports Asian American women-led organizations and individual artists in NYC who are using arts and culture to bring about progressive social transformation around critical issues that affect Asian American women, girls and families. Their grant cycle awards 5–8 projects, with a maximum grant amount of $15,000.

Sheboygan, Wisconsin

This John Michael Kohler Arts Center residency is open to artists in all disciplines. Up to twelve artists are selected for residencies in pottery or foundry—no experience with clay or cast metal is required, just an interest in pursuing a new body of work and being open to new ideas.

Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens Artist Residencies
Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium

Two residencies are available at the Woning Van Wassenhove house, open to Europe-based artists of any nationality—the FABA Artist Residency for practicing artists in any creative field, and the Art & Architecture Residency for practitioners in any creative discipline whose work is situated at the intersection of art and architecture.

Artists based in the Bay Area are welcome to apply for this two-year fellowship which comes with access to Headlands’ studios, meeting spaces, and staff expertise. It also comes with an annual stipend of $15,000 and additional financial resources to cover the tax burden of that stipend, health insurance, and more.

Cue Art Foundation Open Call for Exhibitions

Emerging and under-recognized artists and curators can submit their ideas for a solo exhibition. Artists will receive mentor support, a studio visit and installation guidance in preparation for the exhibition, as well as a $5,000 honorarium and an accompanying exhibition catalogue.

Experimental Projects Residency

New York-based artists working in visual arts or electronic media can apply for this residency at the Institute for Electronic Arts at Alfred University. Artists receive a $1,000 stipend, travel support, lodging, technology access, materials, and technical assistance.

Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program
Roswell, New Mexico
Deadline: March 15, 2021

This residency program provides artists working in any medium a full year to focus on their creative endeavors in rural New Mexico. Accommodations include a studio with a woodshop, ceramics studio, litho and etching facilities, and a digital print room. Residents are given $1,100 a month, with an additional $100 for spouses and $200 for children.

Ucross Residency Program
Clearmont, Wyoming

This two to six week residency program is open to visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary artists, performance artists and collaborative teams. Ucross provides each artist with living accommodations, meals, work space, and uninterrupted time so that the artists can focus on their creative process.

Climate Justice Fellowship

Culture Push has an open call for proposals for actions or critiques that speak to Environmental Racism and Climate Justice in direct relation to New York City’s shorelines and waterways. Selected fellows will receive a stipend of $1500, communal resources, and a full year of project support.

Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts Residencies

Bemis Center has several opportunities for artists and curator to participate in their residency. Residents have access to private live/work studios, installation and production spaces, a 9,000 square foot industrial space used for large-scale sculpture fabrication, a sound studio for rehearsing and recording, and more.
