Sofía Rei: Antónima Album Release Concert

April 4, 2026

80 North 6th St

Conceived as a follow-up to her critically acclaimed album Umbral, Sofía Rei‘s (2026 Creative Capital Awardee) Antónima brings together a powerful constellation of trailblazing collaborators who are influential voices in global Latin and Latin-diaspora music. Featuring artists such as Gaby Moreno, Daymé Arocena, Mireya Ramos, Xenia Rubinos, Las Áñez, Mariana Baraj, Charo Bogarín, and Juana Luna, the album celebrates a forward-looking Pan-American female identity shaped by artistry, activism, and cultural leadership.

In performance, Antónima comes to life as an immersive and dynamic sound world. Drawing from Rei’s deeply personal connection to Latin American traditions, the music blends alternative pop with folk styles, jazz language, and electronic textures. The songs explore themes of female empowerment, solitude, migrant identity, political indifference, and the paradoxes of the digital age – where ancestral storytelling meets contemporary resonance.

Central to the album’s distinctive sound is JC Maillard, Sofía’s longtime collaborator and producer, whose creative vision was central to shaping the record. A multi-instrumentalist from Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, Maillard brings deep experience in world music, Caribbean styles, jazz, and experimental traditions.

Developed with support from Chamber Music America, New Music USA, and the New York Foundation for the Arts, Antónima is both a musical statement and a cultural manifesto—now unveiled live in this special album release performance.
