CPH:DOX Film Festival
March 15–21, 2026
Various Venues
Copenhagen, Denmark
CPH:DOX is one of the world’s leading festivals dedicated to documentary and nonfiction storytelling, held annually in Copenhagen, Denmark. Known for its adventurous programming and international reach, the festival brings together filmmakers, artists, and audiences to explore new forms of cinematic expression that blur the boundaries between documentary, visual art, performance, and political inquiry. Across screenings, exhibitions, talks, and immersive installations, CPH:DOX highlights works that challenge conventional narrative forms while engaging urgent social, cultural, and environmental questions.
This year’s festival features projects by two artists supported by the Creative Capital Award: Adam Khalil and Sam Green.
Adam Khalil (2021 Creative Capital Awardee) presents the European premiere of Aanikoobijigan [ancestor / great-grandparent / great-grandchild], a new film created with fellow members of the New Red Order artist collective. Exploring the battle over the earthly remains of Indigenous peoples, the film reveals how struggles for repatriation unfold across both bureaucratic systems and spiritual traditions.
Sam Green (2001 Creative Capital Awardee) presents The Oldest Person in the World, a warm and subtle film about life, death and everything in between – which is quite a lot! Not least if you are one of the oldest people in the world, like those we meet in Sam Green’s new film.
Together, these presentations reflect the breadth of documentary practice today—spanning experimental film, hybrid storytelling, and expanded cinema. Their participation in CPH:DOX underscores the global impact of Creative Capital–supported artists and the vital role independent artists play in shaping the future of nonfiction storytelling.
