Kenjji Jumanne-Marshall

Kenjji is a comic artist based in Detroit. His exhibitions include the Psionic Distortion Exhibition in Tokyo, the Plum Blossoms Gallery in New York, and the Detroit Historical Museum. His comics have been self-published under Griot Comics, which he founded with his wife. Kenjji is also a recipient of the Xeric Foundation grant; he teaches Cartooning & Caricature at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and works as a freelance graphic artist and illustrator.
KuroManga Magazine
KuroManga Magazine is an independent comic anthology that combines American hip-hop superhero characters with Japanese Manga-style anime environments. This project joins two culturally specific styles of graphic art and animation that have profoundly influenced one another for years. Each issue of KuroManga features scenarios that mimic those of traditional Manga anthologies. In “GunBoy,” a pack of ingenious children builds a robot to save their city from a gang war; in “One Man Army,” a hip-hop artist narrates a series of underground crime-fighting adventures.
