Join renowned drummer, producer, composer, and educator Terri Lyne Carrington (2023 Creative Capital Awardee) as she shares professional insights, reflects on pivotal artistic moments, and explores current aspirations in the jazz field. She reflects on topics ranging from working with collaborators, the practicalities of self management, bringing new work to jazz audiences, and how to lead with value-driven approaches. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about the intersections between her creative process and education work, touching on composition, mentorship, and business.
Terri Lyne Carrington is an NEA Jazz Master, Doris Duke Artist, and four-time Grammy Award–winning drummer, composer, producer, and educator. She serves as Founder and Artistic Director of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice in Boston, as well as Artistic Director for New Music USA’s Next Jazz Legacy program. She has performed on more than 100 recordings over her 40-year career and has toured and recorded with luminaries such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Cassandra Wilson, Esperanza Spalding, David Murray, Geri Allen, and numerous others. Her artistry and commitment to education has earned her honorary doctorates from the Manhattan School of Music, York University and Berklee College of Music, and her curatorial work and music direction has been featured in many prestigious institutions internationally. The critically acclaimed album Waiting Game, from Terri Lyne Carrington & Social Science, earned the esteemed Edison Award for music and a Grammy nomination.
Her latest album, We Insist 2025! also earned a Grammy nomination, as well won the 2026 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album. Currently she is working on the highly anticipated second volume of New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers.
