Dear Creative Capital Friends,

Thank you all for your generous and enthusiastic participation in our inaugural Creative Capital trip to the Venice Biennale!

Together, we witnessed the impact of Creative Capital in funding and supporting artists at catalytic moments in their careers with Jeffrey Gibson’s (2005 Creative Capital Awardee) stunning US Pavilion in conversation with the works of hundreds of contemporary artists in the Giardini and the Arsenale.

Mixing old and new, local with global, this trip showcased the intersection of the visual arts, such as Christoph Büchel at Fondazione Prada, Pierre Huyghe at Punta Della Dogana, and the outstanding Nigerian Pavilion, with the rich multidisciplinary history of artists in Venice, from polymath Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo to the new creative energies happening in the city of lagoons today— including the sound studio of Cosmo (where 2000 Creative Capital Awardee Ralph Lemon had a residency), the studio of Lucia Veronesi (winner Italian Council 12), and new African-inspired initiatives at Akka Gallery and Wetlands’s “African Venice” book with afterword by Maaza Mengiste (2019 Creative Capital Awardee).

I enjoyed every minute of this journey with all of you! I hope you will always relish the memories of our athleticism on the water taxis and the amazing ecological dinner by Marco Bravetti in the gorgeous palazzo of Count and Countess Alverà!

Creative Capital’s vibrant community relies upon the ongoing passionate support of philanthropists, industry experts, cultural producers, and artists to advance our mission. Thank you, Giorgia and Alice, for the flawless planning and illuminating guidance at every venue. Thank you, Reggie, Colleen, Joe, and Michele, for your exceptional leadership on our board, and Angela, for your leadership of our Artist Initiatives team. Thank you, Aliza, for your participation as our stellar 2024 Creative Capital Awardee, and huge thanks to Colleen M., Jane, Kim, Kurt, Phil, and Tom, for being our wonderful ambassadors and friends.

Looking forward to our next art-filled adventure!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Christine
