NewCrits is offering three intimate 8-week virtual courses for emerging and mid-career artists, led by Ajay Kurian, Shala Miller, and Steve Shaheen. Designed for practitioners seeking conceptual rigor, in-depth feedback, and a critically engaged peer network, each class combines live critiques with rigorous studio assignments, guest lectures from leading voices, and readings that deepen both practice and context. Full-tuition scholarships and payment plans available.

What of My Mirror: Rethinking the Photographic Self-Portrait with Shala Miller
Each instructor brings a distinct conceptual framework and specialized expertise to their approach. Ajay Kurian, artist and educator, has taught at Parsons, Yale, Columbia, Bard, and was faculty at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2023. Shala Miller, whose work is in the collections of MoMA, The Studio Museum, and the Hessel Museum, has taught at Cornell and Parsons. Steve Shaheen, a sculptor working between New York, Connecticut, and Carrara, Italy, holds a professional stone sculpture certification from the Scuola Edile Lapidea in Siena, Italy.
