Artist Opportunities with Upcoming Deadlines in June and July, 2021

Each month, we compile a list of residencies, grants, and open calls for artists working in all disciplines. This month’s list includes the Tusen Takk residency in Leland, Michigan, a new $25,000 fellowship for Puerto Rican writers, and a $10,000 grant for artists in Louisville, Kentucky.

2022 AIRIE Residency
Miami, Florida
Deadline: June 1, 2021

This yearlong program offers fellows $4000 research grant, institutional support from AIRIE’s network and partners, and a month-long residency in the Everglades National Park. The program is open to emerging or professional artists ages 21 and over, with environmental themes in their work. There is a $10 application fee.

Cuttyhunk Island Residency
Gosnold, Massachusetts
Deadline: June 1, 2021

This residency offers visual artists the time to focus on their work in a remote island setting just west of Martha’s Vineyard. Artists pay the cost of board, with scholarships available.

Kala Fellowship Award
Deadline: June 4, 2021

The Kala Fellowship Award is an international competition open to artists producing innovative work in all mediums including printmaking, digital media, installation art, social practice, photography, and book arts. There is a $10 application fee.

The Canadian Women Artists’ Award

This $5,000 award is open to emerging or early career female artists in New York State working in visual art or media and design.

Innovate Grant

This unrestricted $550 grant is awarded to one visual artist and one photographer each quarter. The fee to apply is $25.

The inaugural Cantabrigia Award will provide two writers or artists the resources to publish and distribute their work with a $1,000 stipend, resources like in-house editing, design, and printing, geared towards the production of a publication.

The Barbara and Carl Zydney Grant for Artists with Disabilities

The program will distribute $1,000 to artists with a disability who have experienced financial hardship due to the COVID-19 crisis. The program is open to visual, media, music, performing, and literary artists who live in New York City.

Columbia Law School’s Artist-in-Residence Program
New York, New York
Deadline: June 15, 2021

Columbia Law School invites an artist to create at least one work that will be displayed at the school, as part of their artist-in-residency program. The selected artist will receive a grant of $15,000 and an allowance of up to $5,000 for art materials. Preference will be given to those who are in the early to middle stages of their careers.

Doc Lab Open Call

This is an 18-month fellowship program that supports filmmakers in the US from racially and ethnically underrepresented communities working on their first or second feature-length documentary film. Firelight Media provides filmmakers with customized mentorship from prominent leaders in the documentary world, as well as funding, professional development workshops, and networking opportunities.

This residency is designed for practicing visual artists, to writers and/or curators for one to three months stays. Facilities include a metal shop, wood shop, print shop, common shop space, and a library. Application fee of $10-30.

The Oak Spring Garden Foundation offers a residency in their formal garden and broader 700-acre landscape, open to national and international botanical artists who can create beautiful and scientifically accurate depictions of plant species.
