In Talk, four “experts” discuss and ponder a controversial fictional African American artist’s life and work. Borrowing its form from Plato’s Dialogues, Carl Rux’s multimedia play searches for truth, explores the difficulties in political struggle experienced by many literary artists in the 20th century, and examines the subjectivity involved in analysis.

A performer and published poet, Carl Hancock Rux has directed as well as written plays. In addition, he has written works for dance groups including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He has had residencies at the University of Wisconsin, Mabou Mines, Ebenezor Experimental Theater in Sweden, and Jacob’s Pillow. Rux was also selected by New York Times Magazine as “One of Thirty Artists Under the Age of Thirty Most Likely to Influence Culture Over The Next Thirty Years.”
