Artist Bio

Offshore is an essay video and performance that documents the process of laundering money through art acquisition. The video follows artist Maura Brewer’s actions as she sets up a series of nested shell corporations in international finance centers, through which she will ultimately purchase and resell an artwork. Offshore combines performance documentation, interviews, and diagrammatic animations to explore each stage of the money laundering cycle. This performance will form the basis of an essay video that explores the dematerialization of art and money.

Maura Brewer: Offshore premiered from March 30–April 25, 2024 at The Canary Test, Los Angeles, CA.
