Supported by the 2023 Creative Capital Award, El Mundo es Niña premieres at Time Square Arts in New York City from September 1-30, 2026.

From September 1-30, interdisciplinary artist duo LIZN’BOW’s (2023 Creative Capital Awardees) El Mundo es Niña will premiere as a Times Square Arts midnight moment, transforming the iconic space into the queer futurist, pro-apocalyptic universe Niñalandia. The multimedia project will take over Times Square’s synchronized billboards, filling the screens with purple skies, flooded dreamscapes, rainbow portals, floating milk jugs, islands of money, a unicorn cow riding a jet ski, and Liz’s abuela flying on a bicycle. The centerpiece of El Mundo es Niña will be the presentation of a live performance that brings together music, video, and installation, premiering September 23.

Created and performed through LIZN’BOW’s feminist band Niña, El Mundo es Niña takes inspiration from the visual and musical languages of reggaeton, advertising, telenovelas, and mass media to challenge conventional narratives around gender, visibility, belonging, and power. In joining original songs with live theatrics, the project reclaims reggaeton as a space for queer joy, cultural resistance, humor, and collective celebration.

From September 20-27, a 34-foot-long interdimensional inflatable rainbow flanked by floating milk jugs and butterfly dolphins and a 27-foot-long inflatable unicorn cow on a jet ski extend into the streets. The live performance and installation of El Mundo es Niña will feature Puerto Rican artist duo Poncili Creación, who will open the evening with an absurdist, large-scale foam puppet performance.
