Crafting Your Elevator Pitch
January 29, 2025, 1PM ET
This event was a part of the Artist Lab Live Session Series, Content Strategy for Artists: Promoting Yourself and Your Work. Sign in to Artist Lab to watch a recording.
To many artists, self-promotion can be a challenge, or a chore. They’d rather be making their work than dealing with the stress and demands of a publicity campaign. This three-part Artist Lab series empowers creative professionals with the tools they need to get the word out. Instructor Robin Cembalest, a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts and popular Creative Capital coach, offers a lively mix of best practices, practical tips, and valuable insights in these one-hour, monthly sessions. First, Robin will explain how to craft your message–who you are, what you do, your meaning and intention, and the qualities that make your art distinctive. Then, she’ll teach you how to disseminate your message across digital and social platforms. With sessions focused on Instagram, writing about your work, and promoting events and projects, Robin’s promotional roadmap will help artists in any field to build visibility, networks, and careers.
In this introductory session, Robin will show you how to assemble the components for that essential Elevator Pitch. Then, she’ll explain how to share your message on Instagram. Using examples from a wide range of artists, she’ll cover crafting profiles, what to post and write, photo and video editing, and building an audience and relationships, along with Reels, Stories, and hashtags. She’ll update you with the latest tools and challenges to using the platform in the current moment.
Artist Lab Live Sessions is part of the new free Creative Capital Artist Lab. Live captioning (CART services) and ASL interpretation and Spanish translation will be provided. The session will also be recorded and made available in the Curriculum.
