Artist Bio

A Rupture in the Order of Reality is a historical collage of Jewish culture. Integrating diverse source material, interactive video, and animated text, the piece is developed with several turntablists and pianist Marina Rosenfeld. Hirsch draws from an immense musical palette for A Rupture in the Order of Reality, from Schoenberg’s Moses Und Aron to the Ramones’ Rockaway Beach; from Irving Berlin’s White Christmas to Bernard Hermann’s music from the film Taxi Driver. Through archival and original video footage, the piece confronts and complicates popular notions of “Jewishness.”
