S. Leo Chiang is an independent documentarian based in San Francisco and Taipei. His most recent film as a director, Our Time Machine, was nominated for an Emmy and the Gotham Awards. In 2020, he directed two episodes of the Peabody-winning 5-part PBS series, Asian Americans. His previous films include the Emmy Award-nominated A Village Called Versailles, as well as Out Run, Mr. Cao Goes to Washington, and To You Sweetheart, Aloha. He also produced After the Rain, which won Special Mention in International Competition at DOC NYC 2021. Leo has been a Sundance-Time Warner Fellow, a Rockwood JustFilms Fellow, and a Co-Chair of New Day Films. He has served as a mentor/trainer for the Hot Docs CrossCurrent Fellowship, the CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum, the Scottish Documentary Institute, and AIDC (Australia). Chiang co-founded A-Doc, the Asian American Documentary Network in 2016, and became a member in the documentary branch of the Academy in 2017.
