Artist Bio

Aria is an installation that combines Joan Jeanrenaud’s original music with Alessandro Moruzzi’s set, lighting and video design. The work is a cello solo performed by Jeanrenaud, accompanied by layers of prerecorded celli, found sounds, samples and loops. The piece is inspired by the decline in the natural environment and the politics that surround this issue. Aria‘s installation component includes a swinging cello, microphones and video projections that incorporate scientific data as well as other images. Throughout the work, air serves as a central metaphor for the invisible bond among the planet’s inhabitants.

Aria premiered at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts as part of Bay Area Now in 2008.
