Our Cosmos, Our Chaos, a 40-minute animation, seeks to unearth spiritual history as a means of political empowerment. The work investigates mystical practices and popular revolt through the story of IN, a girl steeped in Korea’s turbulent history and ancient animistic traditions. Constructed in a dream-like narrative, Our Cosmos, Our Chaos moves between the future and the ancient, between present-day Koreatown, Los Angeles, and pre-industrial Korea. IN is drawn to a gated fortress that leads her through a secret landscape of ancestral ghosts, evil spirits, and supernatural forces. Through sacrifices, battles, and animal deities, IN joins the fortress’ tortured souls in battle against a gang called the Skeleton Boys.
