Announcing the 2019 Creative Capital Awards
We are pleased to announce the selection of 50 projects by 58 individual artists that have received 2019 Creative Capital Awards. The artists represent some of the most exciting work being conducted in all disciplines from digital technology and performing arts to documentary film and visual practice. Each project will receive up to $50,000 in project funding, and a long-term commitment of advisory and career development support accounting for an additional $50,000 in career development services, for a total value of $100,000.
50 projects will receive $5 million in total support.
This year’s 50 projects by 58 individual artists were drawn from a pool of more than 5,200 applications. The projects which earned 2019 Creative Capital Awards are based in 15 different states and territories, from New York to California, Puerto Rico to Washington. Over 60 percent of the artists identify as women, and 77 percent as people of color. They span a range of genres, including literature, performance, the visual arts, moving image, technology, and socially engaged art, but what they all share in common is a conviction in the power of art and the importance of pushing boundaries.

“The 2019 class of Creative Capital Awardees is a window into some of the most innovative, exciting, and powerful work being undertaken today,” said Suzy Delvalle, Creative Capital’s President & Executive Director. “We cannot wait to see how these projects develop, and how this incredible community of artists grows together and evolves.”
“The Creative Capital Award is an investment in the career and potential of the artist. This is not a one-time gift, but a continued relationship and expanded network of inspiration,” added panelist Sixto Wagan. “There’s no real way to quantify the value of being among so many brilliant thinkers and diverse processes.”
