Travel & Transport

Bard College is located in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, about two hours away from New York City. It is easily accessible by plane, train, or car. Please see aside for further details.

While on campus, regular shuttle service is available to transport you throughout the grounds.

Plane Travel

Bard College is accessible by five airports:

SWF – New York Stewart International Airport, Newburg, NY (1 hour drive)*
ALB – Albany International Airport (1 hour drive)*
EWR – Newark International Airport (2.5 hour drive)
JFK – John F. Kennedy International Airport (2.5 hour drive)
LGA – LaGuardia Airport (2.5 hour drive)

(Note: direct flights into the Stewart and Albany airports are limited. Attendees flying to a New York City airport should plan to travel by train to Bard (Rhinecliff Amtrak station), and then take a cab or rideshare to the Bard Campus (15 minute drive). From Albany International Airport, take a taxi to the Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak Station. Take a southbound Empire Service train to Rhinecliff Station (RHI). Complete your trip with a taxi to Bard.  We strongly discourage flying into New York Stewart International Airport.)

Train Travel

Bard College is accessible by both Amtrak and Metro-North trains from New York City. Creative Capital recommends using Amtrak, as it will drop you off closer to campus. Please book your ticket ahead of time and as soon as possible. From each airport, you may take either a car service or public transit to New York Penn Station (33 Street between 7th and 8th Avenues) for Amtrak, or Grand Central Terminal (42nd Street between Lexington and Madison Avenues) for Metro-North. Uber and Lyft will cost approximately $50-80 going into Manhattan from the airports (keep rush hour traffic in mind when choosing your method).

Amtrak

Amtrak’s Empire Line provides northbound service from New York Penn Station (NYP) and southbound service from Albany (ALB) to Rhinecliff (RHI), about 9 miles south of Annandale. Taxi service is available at the station.
Travel Time: Approximately two hours (one hour and 40 minutes by train and 15–20 minutes by taxi).

(Note: A valid photo ID is required for travel on Amtrak and you must have reservations and a ticket prior to boarding the train. For schedules and fares call 800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245) or visit amtrak.com. Be sure to click on the Deals tab to see if there are any discounts that apply to you. Discounted tickets must be booked at least three days in advance. Look for AAA and seasonal discounts.)

Metro-North

Metro-North commuter railroad provides service from Grand Central Station in New York City along the Hudson Line to Poughkeepsie, about 26 miles south of campus. Taxi service is available at the station.
Travel Time: Approximately one hour and 30 minutes (40–50 minutes by train and 40 minutes by taxi).

By Car

Retreat events will take place at The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Kline Commons, Olin Hall, and Bertelsmann Campus Center on Bard College campus.

The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College is located at: 60 Manor Ave, Annandale-On-Hudson, NY 12504

From New York City, the ride is around 2.5 hours and 110 miles. The Taconic State Parkway and the New York State Thruway provide the most direct routes to Bard.

From New York City, take the New York State Thruway (I-87) to Exit 19 (Kingston), take Route 209 (changes to Route 199 at the Hudson River) over the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge to Route 9G, turn left onto Route 9G and drive north 3.5 miles.

Renting a Car

Bard recommends Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Pick up and drop-off service is available at both the Rhinecliff or Poughkeepsie train stations. A representative will drive you back to their Kingston or Poughkeepsie office to rent a vehicle. For more information, visit enterprise.com.

Car Share

Bard has partnered with Zipcar to bring self-service, on-demand car sharing to the area. To use Zipcars, simply register as a member, reserve a car online or by phone, use your Zipcard to enter the car, and drive away. Return the car to the same location.

Parking

Parking passes will be available upon check-in. Please note that we will need your license plate number and the make, model, and color of your car.
