Reception with Creative Capital Artists and Friends
Private residence, Miami, FL

Enjoy cocktails at a private Miami home while meeting renowned visual artists Jesse Krimes (2020 Grantee) and Janine Antoni (2012 Grantee), as well as jazz performer Etienne Charles (2022 Grantee). Krime’s Creative Capital project Mass Incarceration Quilt Series uses participatory art practices visualizing the millions of people “disappeared” by the punitive justice system. Etienne’s Creative Capital project Earth Tones is a multimedia project about daily changes in one’s life in reaction to the future effects of climate change. Janine Antoni employs an amalgam of mediums including performance, sculpture, photography, installation and video.

Kassa Overall’s (2023 Grantee) new sounds are described by NPR as “whole new lanes opening up”. Hailed by Pitchfork as “one of modern jazz music’s most audacious futurists,” members will enjoy a synthesis of Overall’s wide range of influences.

Pamela Sneed: A Tribute to Big Mama Thornton
Joe’s Pub, New York, NY

A Tribute to Big Mama Thornton by Pamela Sneed (2023 Grantee), poet and performer, will honor legend Big Mama Thornton in the form of a musical and text. Backed by a world class band including Viva De Concini and Bernice “Boom Boom” Brooks and more, Sneed covers Thornton’s greatest hits and to tribute the blues singer who helped found Rock and Roll.

In her career spanning over four decades, O’Grady’s approach of cultural criticism has put her as a leading intellectual voice within the art world. She is a pioneering conceptual artist who “offers an alternative to the Western winners-and-losers thinking” as described by The New York Times.

Creative Capital Carnival

Creative Capital Carnival 3rd edition will feature a private screening of our 2024 Awardees project videos in Visual Arts and Film/Moving Image at Metrograph Theater in New York City. The screening will begin with a panel discussion with luminaries James Schamus, Lorraine O’Grady, and Nikyatu Jusu and be followed by a cocktail reception.

Patron Trip: 60th Venice Biennale
Venice, Italy

Experience a world class two-day program in Italy showcasing the work of Jeffrey Gibson (2005 Creative Capital Grantee), among other Creative Capital Grantees at the 60th Venice Biennale. Led by a Venetian expert guide, the experience will include transportation to and from events; a welcome cocktail reception; curator-led tour of the Giardini; a luncheon; and dinner in a private palazzo on the Grand Canal. Participants are responsible for the cost of airfare, hotel accommodation, and car transfers to and from the airport.
