Julia Gunnison is the Artist Initiatives Manager at Creative Capital, where she oversees the application and review processes for the Creative Capital Award, and administers artist services for Creative Capital’s supported artists. Prior to joining Creative Capital in 2022, Julia spent three years at the Sundance Institute where she served as Coordinator for the Sundance Documentary Fund. She previously held positions at the Gotham Film & Media Institute (formerly IFP), DOC NYC, and Tribeca Film Festival. She has served as a grant application reviewer for the Sundance Institute, the International Documentary Association, and Catapult Film Fund. Julia received a B.A. in Film from Johns Hopkins University. Her writing about film has been published in outlets including Reverse Shot, Los Angeles Review of Books, and Screen Slate. She is a 2025 UnionDocs Fellow, and an alumna of the 2024 Film at Lincoln Center Critics Academy and the 2023–24 Reverse Shot Emerging Critics Workshop. She co-edits Syllabus, a weekly publication for nontraditional syllabi.
