Venice Biennale: Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me
Jeffrey Gibson (2005 Awardee) is the first Indigenous artist to represent the U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Gibson has forged an interdisciplinary practice and hybrid visual language characterized by bold use of color, pattern, and text that combines American, Indigenous, and Queer histories with references to popular subcultures, literature, and global aesthetic and artistic traditions.
