S. Leo Chiang Screens His New Documentary in the US and Canada
S. Leo Chiang will screen his new film Our Time Machine at several festivals around the country. The documentary film features Shanghai-based artist Maleonn and the extraordinary work of puppet theater he created for his father, a longtime Peking Opera director. When Maleonn realizes his father has Alzheimer’s disease, he creates “Papa’s Time Machine,” a magical, autobiographical stage performance featuring life-size mechanical puppets. Through the production of this play, the two men confront their mortality before time runs out and memories are lost forever.
The film, directed by Yang Sun and 2019 Creative Capital Awardee S. Leo Chiang, will have its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in NYC and will screen in Toronto, San Francisco, and Los Angeles through mid-May.
