María Elena González: Tree Talk
Tree Talk is a multimedia exhibition by Cuban-American artist María Elena González exploring the translation between the physical and the acoustical. Tree Talk investigates the unexpected visual parallels between birch tree bark and cylindrical player piano rolls. González transcribed the distinctive bark pattern from three birch trees; each tree produced unique individual compositions for player piano rolls. Related drawings, prints, video, and sound installations are featured in the exhibition, combining González’s interest in representations of sound and in sound as a sculptural material.
