Tribeca Film Institute, POV Shorts, and The New York Times Op-Docs co-present four new short documentaries celebrating the art and urgency of short-form storytelling. The screening includes films by Creative Capital Awardees Leslie Tai and Michael Premo.

Tai’s film, My American Surrogate, tells the story of a Chinese surrogacy agent’s business in southern California, which has become a one-stop shop for wealthy Chinese couples seeking to hire American surrogates to have their babies for them.

Premo’s film, Water Warriors, highlights the efforts of indigenous and white families that unite to drive out a natural gas company in Canada in a campaign to protect their water and way of life.

Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
