"Muscogee (Creek) Hymn" by Elisa Harkins

Experience the exciting work of Elisa Harkins (2024 Awardee), Kalup Linzy (2008 Awardee), and Nathan Young (2012 Awardee) at Sovereign Futures through April 7 with The University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. A constellation of projects, performances, meals, and panel discussions across venues, Sovereign Futures is designed to spark dialogues on sovereignty through the lens of contemporary practices.

Kalup Linzy will host a breakfast and reception at their Queen Rose Art House, a social and critical art space, while Elisa Harkins and Nathan Young are featured at We Have Arrived, a group exhibition exploring Afro-Indigenous histories of Tvlse/Tulsa and beyond. Featured is Elisa Harkins’s Muscogee (Creek) Hymn. An exploration of the forced displacement of the Muscogee (Creek) people from their ancestral lands in the Southeast to Indian Territory, now known as Oklahoma, the piece is a powerful combination of installation and video with sound that invites viewers to reflect on the enduring legacy of this historical trauma.
