Career documentation and preserving one’s legacy are essential components of an artist’s life and practice–even early on in their careers. In this online workshop–applicable to artists of all disciplines–Antonia Perez will provide a summary of, and rationale for,  entering into the career documentation process. It will take into consideration that each artist will have their own style, approach, and affinities in how they go about this work. The workshop will include:

  • Discussion on the connection between career documentation and one’s legacy as an artist
  • How to begin the career documentation process, and how to stick with it 
  • How to create an archiving system 
  • Suggested methods, materials, and tips that artists can use to begin on their own
  • Suggestions for how artists might work with assistance in the process
  • Considerations for artists at different stages of their careers
  • Q&A

Antonia Perez

Antonia A. Perez is a mixed-media artist living and working in New York City.  She focuses on the reuse and transformation of materials. In addition to making objects she engages audiences through placing artworks in and performing in public places, and holding workshops and public events that involve audiences with art and advocate for the environment. Her work has recently been on view in Prospect Park, through Good Naked Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago, IL; Artspace, Raleigh, NC; Hampden Gallery, Amherst, MA. She has worked as a Legacy Specialist for seven years for which she was trained through the Creating a Living Legacy program of the Joan Mitchell Foundation. For the last six years she has been charged with archiving the work of the late artist Joe Overstreet. She holds a B.A. in Visual Arts and Arts Education from Empire State College, SUNY and a Master of Fine Arts from Queens College, CUNY.
