With an installation of new site-specific sculptures, Alan Ruiz (2019 Awardee) invites viewers to consider changing ideas around social institutions, audience, politics, and self-image, as well as the attempt to find a form to contain these shifting collective understandings. Subtle interventions within and outside the gallery contextualize Ruiz’s project within the wider museum’s systems of classification, gesturing to the political and institutional drive to create a sense of order.
