Artist Opportunities: July and August 2022
Discover some of the hottest residencies, grants, and awards opportunities for artists of all disciplines this summer. Project Row House in Houston is looking for works by visual artists living and working in the southern region for their biennial; the Children’s Museum of the Arts in New York invites artists to apply for their Residency for Experimental Arts Education, which comes with an annual salary of $50,000 plus benefits; and the Faena Prize for the Arts is awarding $100,000 to a site-specific project proposal, to be installed at the Faena Beach during Miami Art Week 2022.

Residency for Experimental Arts Education
New York, New York

The Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA) invites artists to apply for this opportunity to design and implement arts education programs. Residents will receive an annual salary of $50,000 plus benefits, and is expected to fulfill a 40-hour per week schedule, inclusive of independent studio time.
Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan’s Artist Residency
Los Angeles, California

This residency is open to emerging and mid-career artists working in all disciplines across Greater Los Angeles. Artists will receive $5,000 a month over the course of four months, an allowance of up to $1,500 for purchase of art materials, and access to a studio space.
Loghaven Artist Residency
Knoxville, Tennessee
Deadline: July 15, 2022
This residency, located on ninety acres of woodland, provides artists accommodations in historic log cabins that have been rehabilitated and modernized to create an ideal setting for reflection and work. All Loghaven Fellows are awarded stipends to support the creation of new work during the residency. Application fee: $20
Burlington Contemporary Art Writing Prize

This Prize is open to writers on contemporary art. The winner of the Prize receives £1,000, their review will be published on Burlington Contemporary, and they have the opportunity to publish a review of an art exhibition in The Burlington Magazine.
Project Row Houses Southern Survey Biennial

Project Row House is looking for recent works created by contemporary visual artists living and working in the southern region. Seven artists will be selected and one artist will receive a $25k prize.
Circ Artist Grants
Deadline: July 20, 2022
The Circ Artist Grant provides unrestricted funding to visual artists with a demonstrated commitment to their art. Two artists per grant cycle are awarded $550 each to enhance and further their creative practice. Application fee: $25
Prospect Art New Work Open Call
Deadline: July 20, 2022
This grant is open to visual artists that require financial assistance to create new conceptual-based work. The program provides a $1000 mini-grant twice a year to an individual artist or artists’ collective. Projects should be in its initial stages and can be completed within the next 6 months. Application fee: $10.
Sunroom Project Space
Bronx, New York

The Sunroom Project Space is a venue for New York-area emerging artists to develop a site-specific visual arts project as a solo exhibition at Wave Hill, public garden and cultural center. Four artists will be selected for solo exhibitions, and receive an honorarium of $2000, exhibition support, and professional development.
CatchLight Global Fellowship

In partnership with MPB.com, CatchLight will award $30,000 grants to support four innovative leaders who work in visual storytelling. CatchLight seeks candidates who look to make a lasting impact.
Southern Artists for Social Change

This National Performance Network program provides $25,000 project grants to artists and culture bearers of color living, working, and engaging in social change in urban, rural, and tribal communities of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Residencias Rhizomaticas
Jersey City, New Jersey
Deadline: July 31, 2022
Rhizomatica is an in-person, experimental, nomadic, performance residency lab, led by Creative Capital Awardee Estrellx Supernova. The performance lab is open to BIQTPOC and allied creatives and centers the healing arts, choreographic excavation, and ritualistic cartographies. The early bird due date is July 1–15, 2022.
Atelier Mondial Residency
New York, New York and Basel, Switzerland

Residency Unlimited is accepting applications for their six month residency. New York City based visual and performance artists are eligible to apply. This is an exchange program, hosted in partnership with Atelier Mondial, provides a roundtrip flight from New York to Basel, a live-in-studio, and an allowance of $1,200 per month.
Queens Museum-Jerome Foundation Fellowship
Queens, New York

This fellowship for emerging visual artists in New York City provides $20,000, individual studio space at the Queens Museum, and professional development consultations. The one-year fellowship will culminate in solo exhibitions at Queens Museum in Fall 2023.
Faena Prize for the Arts
Miami, Florida

Artists across genres, disciplines, and technologies are invited to imagine temporary and site-specific projects to be installed at the Faena Beach during Miami Art Week 2022. The winning proposal will receive a US $100,000 prize.
Anita Wetzel Residency Grant
Deadline: August 1, 2022
The Anita Wetzel Residency Grant is a new opportunity focused on mature artists (ages 45 and up) to create new work. The residency provides artists with 4–6 weeks to work in Women’s Studio Workshop’s intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screen printing, darkroom photography, or ceramics studios. Selected artists will also receive a stipend of $350/week, up to $500 for materials, and up to $250 toward travel.
Franconia Sculpture Park Residencies

Franconia provides a communal residency experience where up to 18 selected artists live on-site at their 4500 sq. ft. farmhouse. Applicants should express an interest in investigating and creating work exploring intersectional impacts between public art and public health.
Franconia Artist Family Residencies

The Artist Family Residency supports Artist Parents and Artist Youth alike with a one-two week residency at Franconia in July. The Artist Parent receives a $2000 unrestricted stipend and youths ages 8–17 may participate in Free Youth Installation Summer Camps.
Art and Change Grant

This grant provides support of up to $2,500 to women and trans artists and cultural producers in greater Philadelphia to fund art for social change projects.
Bemis Center Fall Residency
Omaha, Nebraska

This residency is open to national and international artists of all disciplines showing a strong professional working history. Residents receive a $1,000 monthly stipend, an additional $750 travel stipend, and access to installation and production spaces. Application fee: $40.
Artist Trust Endurance Grants
Washington State

Artist Trust will provide 40 unrestricted need-based grants of $2,500 to artists working in all disciplines across Washington State to assist with an unforeseen emergency, crisis, or catastrophic event. This grant is open to artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and/or Native, LGBTQIA+, immunocompromised, with immigrant status, have or are living with a disability, and/or low income.
Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants

This program provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 for recent unexpected medical, dental, and mental health emergencies to artists in financial need who are practicing in the visual arts, film/video/electronic/digital arts, and choreography.
Fountainhead Residency Open Call

The month-long Fountainhead Residency is open to visual artists with demonstrated artistic excellence. Artists-in-residence receive roundtrip airfare, living and working accommodations and a stipend. The first 300 applications will be accepted July 5–August 5, 2022.
In Situ Artist Fellowship

This two-year fellowship provides a rent-free studio space, an annualized salaried position at $45,000/year with full benefits, and a solo exhibition in Spring 2024.
CMCA Artist Residency
Rockland, Maine

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art is seeking proposals for the development of a public art project. The selected artist will receive a monthly $1,200 honorarium, and a project budget of up to $5,000. Open to artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, or alternately identified persons of color who live year-round in Maine.
Canadian Women Artists’ Award

The Canadian Women Artists’ Award is a $5,000 cash grant open to Canadian women artists ages 25-40 in New York State working in visual art or media and design.
Corning Museum of Glass BIPOC Residency
Corning, New York

This artist-in-residence program invites artists to engage in a month-long period of practice-based glassmaking. Residents have access to the Museum’s comprehensive collection of over 50,000 glass objects, their research library on glass, and one of the most extensively equipped glassmaking facilities in the world.
Beauchamp Prize in Critical Art Writing

Gulf Coast Magazine is accepting submissions for the Beauchamp Prize. Entries should be a single piece of critical art writing, written (or published) within the last year. A variety of creative approaches and formats to writing on the visual arts are encouraged, including thematic essays, exhibition reviews, and scholarly essays. The prizes range from $1,000-$3,000.
Franconia Fellowship

This fellowship supports mid-career artists working in sculpture and installation, including land art, ceramics, contemporary craft, experimental sound/music, and performance art. Fellows are provided a $7500 stipend to fabricate and install work for exhibition in the 50-acre outdoor sculpture park.
Franconia Writers Residency

Seven accomplished writers will receive a stipend, full room & board, and a two-week residency at the 50-acre outdoor sculpture park. Stochastic Labs Summer Residency

Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant

Do you have an unanticipated opportunity to present your work? Did you incur an unexpected expense that you didn’t budget for? The Foundation for Contemporary Arts offers Emergency Grants between $500 and $3,000 for experimental artists. They review applications once a month, so you can quickly take advantage of momentum or solve any budget errors.
Gottlieb Emergency Grant Program

This emergency grant provides financial assistance to painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation.
Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism

The Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism (ECFJ) is a grant-making program that supports artists producing innovative and revelatory journalistic work for major media outlets. Grant support will range from $500 to $5,000.
Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund

The Adobe Creative Residency program supports creators of visual digital work, offering grants of $500–$5,000 for either a portfolio project or a paid Adobe project commission.
Awesome Foundation On the Water Grant

This grant awards $1,000 per month to a water-focused project that brings creativity, culture, and inclusion to the water or provides a new way of thinking about the water. Applicants can be based anywhere in the world.
