Artist Opportunities with Upcoming Deadlines in December, 2021, and January, 2022
Each month, we compile a list of residencies, grants, and open calls for artists working in all disciplines. This month’s list includes a poetry residency at the Guggenheim that comes with $20,000, a visual arts prize for international artists worth £10,000, and an international competition to discover new talents in photography.
PlySpace Residency Application
Muncie, Indiana

This residency program offers visual artists, writers, performers, designers, and other creative individuals time and space to investigate and pursue their own practices. Each resident will propose a personal project as well as a project to be completed in partnership with a community collaborator. The application is free through November 15.
Currier Museum Artist-in-Residence
Manchester, New Hampshire

The Currier Museum of Art invites applications for its Artist-in-Residence program. Resident artists receive a stipend of $1,000 per week, travel allowance up to $500, materials support, and housing in a fully furnished home.
Sundance Institute Humanities Sustainability Fellowship
Deadline: December 1, 2021
This fellowship provides unrestricted stipends to US-based underemployed nonfiction mediamakers whose work and livelihood have been grossly affected by the pandemic. Selected mediamakers working on humanities-focused projects will receive monthly stipends of $5,000 per month over 12 months and dedicated mentorship, project advice, and other tailored non-financial support.
Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency

The Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency program by Collar Works is designed to provide emerging, underrepresented, and established artists an immersive, supportive, productive, and communal atmosphere for art-making and dialogue on a bucolic 77-acre farm. The summer residency offers 2 and 4-week residencies for individual artists and 1-week residencies for families. Application fee: $25.
Guggenheim Poetry Residency
New York, New York

This poet-in-resident focuses on public engagement to collaborate with the Guggenheim’s public programs department to design activations and experiences for the museum’s adult, teen, and youth audiences to engage with poetry as an artistic form. The position comes with a $20,000 honorarium.
Socrates Sculpture Park Open Call
Queens, New York
Deadline: December 6, 2021
Applicants to the 2022 Socrates Annual Fellowship and exhibition program are encouraged to submit proposals based on the prompt *Sink or Swim with the goal of presenting a public artwork for a group exhibition. Fellows receive a $8,000 production grant to support their project, a $2,000 honorarium, and three-months of seven-days-a-week access to the resources and fabrication facilities of the Park’s outdoor artist studio.
iStock Creative Inclusion Grants

This inaugural grant is dedicated to promoting the work of emerging creative artists seeking to draw attention to, and depict, underrepresented communities through their commercial photography work. Artists will receive a prize of $5,000 in support of their ongoing creative work or a proposed project.
Plum Lime Residency

The Plum Lime Residency offers a private studio space for artists to make create a body of work for a month, and will receive studio visits.
CCA-WRI Research Fellowship Program
Montreal, Canada

The Canadian Centre for Architecture and Window Research Institute seeks proposals for research projects centered on architecture’s varied relationships to the changing material constitution of the light spectrum. Fellows receive access to a private office and a monthly stipend of 5000.
Dance/USA Fellowships to Artists
Deadline: December 8, 2021
This fellowship program offers direct support to individual dance and/or movement-based artists who have developed a sustained and intentional practice of working through dance and movement-based modalities to address social change. Thirty one-year fellowships will be selected, with a minimum of $30,000 per awarded artist.
Mattress Factory International Open Call
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Artists from around the world are invited to apply for the Mattress Factory’s open call. Selected artists are given a $5,000 honorarium and supported throughout the development of their project over an 18 to 24 month period, culminating in a site-specific installation inside the Museum.
Bernheim Artist Residency
Clermont, Kentucky

This residency encourages visual artists to examine environmental issues and severity of the climate crisis to promote dialogue and positive change for the natural environment and world at large. Up to four artists will be selected for this residency program, each with a $2,500 stipend.
Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan’s Artist Residency

This residency is open to emerging and mid-career artists working in all disciplines across Greater Los Angeles. Artists will receive receive $5,000 a month over the course of four months, an allowance of up to $1,500 for purchase of art materials, and access to a studio space.
Puffin Foundation Artist Grant Program

The Puffin Foundation is accepting new proposals in the fine arts, music, and photography. Grants range from $1,250 to $2,500.
Visual Art Open Prize

International artists working in all visual arts disciplines are invited to apply for this UK-based award worth £10,000.
Atelier Mondial Residency

This residency is open to visual artists of all disciplines and performance artists who reside in New York City. The program supports artists with $1,200 per month, travel expenses, and a studio space in Switzerland.
Elsewhere Funded Family Residency
Paonia, Colorado
Deadline: December 17, 2021
Elsewhere Studios provides artists with living and studio space, and a stipend of $1,000 for a 10-day residency. Artists can bring their spouse and family or attend on their own.
Tilt Institute Artist Residency
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This residency assists artists who are working on the creation of work with financial support, access to high-end facilities, and proper technical assistance and education. The program comes with a $2,500 honorarium, a $1,000 credit to be applied to ink usage fees and paper, and more.
The David Prize
New York, New York

The David Prize is a celebration of individuals and ideas to create a better, brighter New York City. Open to any individual working in the five boroughs, five selected New Yorkers will receive a Prize of $200,000 each to realize their visions.
NYC Mural Arts Project Request for Proposal

Brooklyn Community Services seeks applications from muralists to work on the NYC Mural Arts Project. The aim of the program is to use a collaborative mural-making process as a tool to raise awareness and eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness. The two artists will receive a $20,000 honorarium.
Anna Rabinowitz Award for Poetry

This prize worth $1,000 is awarded to poets and their collaborators for venturesome, interdisciplinary work made in the previous year and combining poetry and any other art or discipline.

Skowhegan offers artists the opportunity to engage fully with their studio practice, with their peers, and with distinguished faculty and mentors in it’s nine-week intensive & residential program. Tuition is $6,000, and financial aid is available.
Good Hart Artist Residency

Visual artists, writers, and composers can apply for this residency, which provides full room and board, a meal or two provided by a local host, a $500 stipend, and quiet, natural surroundings to concentrate on creative work.
Right of Return USA Fellowship

This fellowship program supports formerly incarcerated artists in the creation of original works. Six artists will be awarded a grant of $20,000 each to support a project aimed at reforming our criminal justice system.
Anderson Center Residency Program

The Folger Institute Artist Research Fellowship

Frankenthaler Climate Awards

Starting January 10, 2022, visual artists and collectives are invited to submit video artworks (e.g. digital video art, animation, film) or videos about visual artworks that tackle the climate change emergency. Each winner will receive $15,000.
Foreland Fellowship

Stochastic Labs Summer Residency

Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant

Do you have an unanticipated opportunity to present your work? Did you incur an unexpected expense that you didn’t budget for? The Foundation for Contemporary Arts offers Emergency Grants between $200 and $2,500 for visual and performing artists. They review applications once a month, so you can quickly take advantage of momentum or solve any budget errors.
Gottlieb Emergency Grant Program

This emergency grant provides financial assistance to painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation.
