Photo Gallery: Creative Capital's New Home on Maiden Lane
Earlier this month, Creative Capital moved into a new office space at 15 Maiden Lane in New York’s Financial District. Designed by Frederick Biehle at Via Architecture, our new home features more office space for our growing staff and flexible common spaces where we can host lectures, work-in-progress film screenings, professional development workshops and other gatherings. We remain eternally grateful to our Founding Donor, The Andy Warhol Foundation, for making this dream possible.
When you come off the elevator you will be greeted by a lively entryway, seen above.
Throughout the space, the architects did a tremendous job of maximizing the light and the sightlines. From many of the rooms and hallways, you can see right through the space, front to back, side to side.
We’re thrilled to occupy the whole floor, and we have some glorious views of the surrounding buildings in Downtown Manhattan.
The offices themselves are smartly designed to maximize space and light. The built-in furniture is beautiful—I love our “Donald Judd” shelving and the curved desks.
We have a little kitchen area, which will have a lunch counter (not pictured below) where staff and guests can gather. We have other small meeting areas throughout the space.
The greatest assets of the space are the areas we can make available to our artists. We have multiple meeting areas, two of which could also accommodate small screenings or other presentation events. Our conference room, shown below, will seat up to 50 with the tables removed. There is a room divider that, when closed, turns the space into two smaller meeting rooms.
And then we have what I’m calling the “Artists’ Funhouse.” This is a small area seating about eight where we hope our artists will bring their laptops and just hang out. It is also an additional meeting space for staff and a place for interns to work if the offices get too crowded.
That space flows into an open, multi-purpose area, here set up as if for a lecture or panel. We’re especially excited that this can serve as a classroom where we can present our Professional Development workshops for New York area artists. This space also has blackout curtains and could be used for evening screenings. But the chairs can be stacked in a corner and the area can be used for small receptions, perhaps following an event in the conference room.
Here it is set up as a co-working space. As you can see, the space has been designed for maximum flexibility, so that more than one thing can be going on at a time. Space is at a premium in NYC, especially in Manhattan!
We also have a lovely seating area with comfy Eames chairs and a library of books and media by Creative Capital artists (with more books to come!).
We’re so excited to be entering this new phase of the Creative Capital journey and look forward to keeping you posted about events and programs taking place in our new home!
