Alison O’Daniel’s (2019 Awardee) The Tuba Thieves is finally making its way to a theater near you! What is the role of sound and what does it mean to listen? Hard of hearing filmmaker O’Daniel uses a series of tuba thefts in Los Angeles high schools as a jumping-off point to explore these questions. Through several d/Deaf people telling stories in a unique game of telephone, the central mystery of The Tuba Thieves isn’t about theft of instruments; it’s about the nature of sound itself.

For those who can’t make it to live screenings, the US broadcast premiere will take place on PBS Independent Lens on May 20, 2024!

Screenings will take place through March 28, 2024 starting March 22, 2024.
