Bringing together the work of New York-based artists and filmmakers Bahar Behbahani and Jon Wang, this event expands the format of the “Short Shadows” moving image series to include elements of performance, painting, and architecture.

“We Were Missing A Present” is a meditative study on the social and topographical transformations of cultural landscape. By exploring the notion of garden as a place of contest, Behbahani is seeking alternative dynamic between power and control. Her research-based practice unites all of the various components in this project. She utilizes her brush strokes, body movement, and water to provoke our spatial memory observing the inherent complexities of resources. We Were Missing A Present re-imagines of the historical structure of landscape, botany, migration, and the colonization process.
