Lucy Kim’s (2022 Awardee) Creative Capital project premiere consists of new melanin works made from images of genetically modified vanilla plants in a solo exhibition. These works extend her broader investigations into the entangled relationship between bioengineering, visual appearance, and the social and cultural construction of race and perception.
