Lauren Lee McCarthy’s largest solo exhibition in the United States to date, “Bodily Autonomy” sparks a potent and timely dialogue about agency and our bodies in times of rapid technological development and increased surveillance with the presentation of two major works, Surrogate and Saliva. In Surrogate, McCarthy offers her body as a remote-controlled surrogate to individuals interested in having a child.  Saliva offers visitors the opportunity to trade their DNA with one another through a saliva exchange facilitated by saliva baristas in a customized dispensary experience, sidestepping the anonymity of medical and corporate entities collecting genetic information and generating a conversation about data privacy.
