Dreamocracy Conversation with Dread Scott
Join New York-based artist DREAD SCOTT on Friday, May 22 @ 6pm PST/9pm EST for a Dreamocracy conversation with artists VICTOR PAYAN and POCHA PEÑA.
Scott makes revolutionary art to propel history forward. His work looks towards an era without exploitation or oppression.
In 2019, he organized a Slave Rebellion Reenactment in New Orleans, and in 1989, his project, “What Is The Proper Way to Display a US Flag,” was outlawed by the entire U.S. Senate. His resistance became part of a landmark Supreme Court case. His website is www.dreadscott.net.
DREAMOCRACY IN AMERICA is a take-no-prisoners transdisciplinary performance tour of the United States and podcast that continues Alexis de Tocqueville’s classic exploration of American democracy, and completes his epic project by engaging with communities on both sides of the 1831 US border.
The goal of Dreamocracy in America is to catalyze a redefinition and reclaiming of democracy from the local to the national level by spreading the message and visions of people who are leading that discussion. This includes artists, activists, people of color, women, Native Americans, members of the LGBTQ community, etc.
Led by artists Victor Payan and Pocha Peña, Dreamocracy in America is a Creative Capital project.
