Queridos!
I’m very pleased to send you the first Board of Directors Newsletter. Every two months we’ll send you an email to update you on the latest from Creative Capital. I hope you enjoy the read! The above photo is from yesterday’s Staff Retreat. Lisa Yancey facilitated a day-long session at the beautiful Duke Farms in New Jersey, where we spent the day team-building and visioning.
We are preparing for a busy year! In addition to several project premieres (The TEAM, Cassils, Patty Chang, and Kenny Fries, to name a few), we are excited to enter into Phases II and III of our organizational and field assessment. I am happy to report that Stavros Niarchos Foundation approved a grant request of $100,000 to support this work, and I look forward to updating you on all that we will learn. We are also launching the new application website on September 6, and Lisa, Brittni, and I will visit various cities for application information sessions beginning this week.
I am also happy to share that we recently partnered with Fractured Atlas for its launch of the Artist Campaign School. Born out of the current political climate, this new program seeks to train and prepare artists to run for elected office at the federal, state, and local levels. We are excited to align ourselves with an important initiative like this. You can learn more about Artist Campaign School here and here.
Lastly, I look forward to seeing you all in San Francisco for our next Board of Directors Meeting on Thursday, October 12. I will be in touch soon with more details, but, in the meantime, I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the summer!

Artist Highlight
Meet Amy Meissner, an artist living and working in Alaska who recently participated in Creative Capital’s Professional Development Program through a partnership with the Rasmuson Foundation. We recently featured Amy in a CC blog post where she talks about the challenges of working in an isolated setting and how our PDP offerings helped connect her to a national network of artistic opportunities. Please see the blog post here.

On July 13, new CC Board Member Michelle Coffey participated in “What Will Be Different: A Conversation on Arts Funding in a Changing America.” This panel discussion was part of a larger program curated by Brian Tate called “We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For.” Fellow panelists included Kickstarter’s Yancey Strickler and Robert Rauschenberg Foundation’s Risë Wilson. In addition to discussing the ways in which the current political climate is impacting arts funding, Michelle also stressed the importance of supporting artist-centered organizations like Creative Capital.
