Lear
Young Jean Lee
Artist BioYoung Jean Lee creates a loose adaptation of Shakespeare’s epic tragedy in her new show, Lear. This show zeroes in on that chilling moment in a person’s life when they realize that their parents are aging and mortal, that they’re going to have to take care of them, and that they themselves are going to age and die. This new play wrestles with the clichés of “dysfunctional American family plays” as well as with Shakespeare’s classic exploration of the aging patriarch to create an unexpectedly moving portrayal of what happens when death suddenly stops being an abstract concept.
