Self-taught filmmaker Chris Munch lives in Los Angeles. His 1996 film Color of a Brisk and Leaping Day was shown at major festivals including Sundance and was released theatrically in the U.S. He was also successful with his 1991 feature The Hours and Times, and 1987 feature In Laura’s Garden. At age 15, Chris began an award-winning streak sweeping the KPBS Young Filmmakers Awards two years in a row. His later honors include an Independent Spirit Award from Independent Feature Project, a Sundance Jury Prize, and top prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Artist BioThe Sleepy Time Gal is a narrative film about a remarkable woman, her family and her past lovers as she approaches death in her fifties. The film depicts this woman’s relationship with her aimless son, and her longing to know her daughter, given up for adoption at birth. Falling outside the boundaries of traditional narrative film, The Sleepy Time Gal has a lyrical style appropriate to a story of reflection and reckoning. It takes place in a number of cities—New York, San Francisco, Daytona Beach, Boston, Lancaster, PA—over a number of years.
