Nikyatu Jusu’s Thriller Nanny now on Amazon Prime Video

“Creative Capital support entered early in our development process for Nanny, my first feature film—before the industry laurels, before the buzz…”—Nikyatu Jusu, 2020 Creative Capital Grantee

Nikyatu Jusu made history in 2022 with her directorial debut, Nanny. It was the first horror film ever to win Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize, and only the second time that award had gone to a Black woman director. Creative Capital awarded Jusu in 2020 to help fund the creation of Nanny. The New York Times Critics’ Pick is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video beginning December 16!

The film follows Aisha, an undocumented nanny working for a privileged couple in New York City. As she prepares for the arrival of the son she left behind in West Africa, a violent presence invades her reality, threatening the American dream she is painstakingly piecing together.

Nikyatu Jusu said, “As an educator and artist, I often encounter the formidable struggle to carve out space and time to concentrate my energy towards chipping away at my passion projects. Creative Capital support entered early in our development process for Nanny, my first feature film—before the industry laurels, before the buzz…Being a part of the Creative Capital family enabled me to allocate the time, energy and resources that would empower me to continue pushing forward on Nanny resulting in the success story you see today. Creative Capital saw the potential of our project very early in our pitching process and for this I am endlessly grateful for their existence as they continue to support artists transitioning into pivotal chapters in their careers.”
