Artist Opportunities with Upcoming Deadlines in October and November, 2021

Each month, we compile a list of residencies, grants, and open calls for artists working in all disciplines. This month’s list includes the Artadia Award, worth $10,000 for artists based in Houston or Atlanta, the National Park Arts Foundation artist residency in Hawai’i, and Black Mountain Institute Shearing Fellowship for writers that comes with a $20,000 stipend.
Mophrat Grants for Artists’ Practice
Deadline: October 1, 2021
This inaugural grant will provide 10 grants of between $2,500-5,000 covering periods of research, residencies, production of new work, curating and presenting shows, amongst other forms of artistic work.
Photo Green Book Residency
Deadline: October 1, 2021
This inaugural residency seeks artist scholars interested in engaging to conduct research and resource building that benefits the “People of the Global Majority” working within lens based mediums. Residents will receive a $500 stipend, and scholastic and professional development and more.
Dots Between Residency

The Dots Between financial coaching program is a virtual program for artists and creatives who are motivated to address their financial practices, nurture their relationship with money, and establish the structures that will support their long term fiscal health.
Artadia Awards
Atlanta, Georgia

The Artadia Awards provide financial support, exposure and recognition to artists in Atlanta. The awards are unrestricted, allowing artists to use the funds in any way they choose.
National Sculpture Society Grants
Deadline: October 4, 2021
National Sculpture Society awards grants of $5,000 to sculptors with a demonstrated commitment to sculpting and outstanding ability in their body of work. Artists working in figurative or realist sculpture, bas-relief and in the round sculpture, and animal sculpture are eligible to apply.
Craft Research Fund Artist Fellowship
Deadline: October 4, 2021
This fellowship awards $20,000 to two artists to support research projects that advance, expand, and support the creation of new research and knowledge through craft practice. There is a $15 application fee.
Jerwood Arts 1:1 Fund
United Kingdom

Early-career artists, curators, and producers based in the UK can apply for this fund to strengthen existing or start new collaborations after the isolating impact of Covid-19. Awards worth £2,000 will help artists connect, develop their work, and generate new ideas.
NARS International Residency Program

Rauschenberg Emergency Grants

These grants of up to $5,000 support direct treatment expenses that have been incurred, or are needed, for medical, dental or mental health treatment. Artists practicing in the visual arts, film, video, electronic, digital arts, and choreography are eligible.
Culture Strike Climate Woke Request for Proposals
Deadline: October 8, 2021
Culture Strike is looking to commission artists who make video friendly work that centers the experience of frontline communities most impacted by climate change and environmental destruction. Selected artists will receive a stipend of $1,500 for their work.
Mirante Xique-Xique Research Residency
Chapada Diamantina, Brazil

This residency program is geared toward visual artists, curators, writers, architects, cooks, environmentalists, and academics who are interested in living, creating, or having an immersion experience in the Chapada Diamantina. The program is research-oriented, and it welcomes those who can establish their own working conditions in the area.
Foundwork Artist Prize

For the first time, Foundwork will award two artists unrestricted $10,000 grants and studio visits with each of the distinguished jurors.
Art Omi Residencies

The National Parks Arts Foundation invites artists of all artistic media to join their artist-in-residency program at Dry Tortugas National Park, which offers a $2,000 stipend, housing, and events.
Squeaky Wheel Workspace Residency

This residency is a project-based residency for artists and researchers working in media arts. Selected applicants will have tailored access to facilities, equipment, technical consultation from Squeaky Wheel, and a $1,000 artist fee.
Collective Imagination for Spatial Justice Grant

This $7,000 award by the Recharge Foundation was created for painters living in the United States who are working in the New Surrealist style.
Soft Residency

Emerging artists who are interested in exploring their perspective on how their own cultural heritage can be understood through interactive media can apply for this residency. It comes with access to a studio and production shop.
Artistic Production Grant

VIA Art Fund is accepting letters of inquiry for their Artist Production grant program. The grant awards individual artists, nonprofit organizations, and institutions $25,000-100,000 in support of new artistic commissions that take place outside museum or gallery walls, within the public realm, or in nontraditional exhibition environments. Project must have a confirmed exhibition venue.

Dresher Ensemble Artist Residency

This residency supports artists in Northern California who are in their early to mid-career stage with free studio space and up-to-date equipment to create new work in the time-based arts such as theater, performance, dance, movement, music, sound art, instrument invention, as well as collaborative and interdisciplinary work. Black Mountain Institute Shearing Fellowship

Abrons Arts Center Performance AIRspace Residency

Performance residents are provided with a monetary commission, premium access to studios, and theaters for rehearsals towards the development of a live performance to be presented at Abrons Arts Center.
Baxter St Residency

Open to emerging New York-based artists, working in photography or lens-based art. Residents shall have free use of the facilities and equipment at Baxter St at CCNY, as well as a secondary photo lab. Juried by a committee of distinguished art professionals.
The Opportunity Agenda Culture & Narrative Fellowship

This fellowship is for artists and cultural strategists working to dismantle and replace the dominant narratives of our time—especially those informing racial justice and immigrant rights—for true economic justice. The six-month fellowship comes with a $15,000 award.
LMCC Arts Center Residency

Un-Productive Solutions Call for Proposals

Artists are invited to submit imaginative and conceptually rigorous proposals imagining technologies, including digital, a combination of digital and analog, or post-digital works. Five proposals will be accepted for artists to develop and complete the work. Artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium upon submission of the final work.
Mellon Foundation Gender and LGBTQ+ History Fellowship

Hired for a two-year term, the Mellon Gender and LGBTQ+ History Fellow works as a public historian for the New-York Historical Society’s Center for Women’s History. This fellowship will receive a stipend of $70,000 per year, with benefits.

This program supports underrepresented and emerging women and non-binary artists in New York City. A.I.R. provides fellows with sponsored membership with A.I.R. Women’s Studio Workshop Residencies

Women’s Studio Workshop offers Studio, Legacy, Art-in-Education Artist’s Book, and Artist’s Book Residencies for women and trans, intersex, nonbinary and gender-fluid visual artists. Their studios are housed in an historic building, located in the foothills of the Hudson Valley’s Shawangunk Mountains.
Sandy Crimmins National Prize for Poetry

This annual national poetry prize is worth $1,000 for first place, and $250 for runners up. The prize celebrates risk, innovation, and emotional engagement, and encourage poets from underrepresented groups and backgrounds to send apply.
SMACKMELLON Studio Program Open Call

The program provides six eligible emerging or early career artists working in all visual arts media a free, private studio space. Their facilities include a digital production lab and a fabrication shop.
Connecting Communities Digital Intiative Artist or Scholar Residency
Washington, DC

This residency program will fund an artist or scholar, supported for $50,000 in their first year and $100,000 in their second year. Individuals selected will be those whose artistic or scholarly work connects with the intersections of technology and cultural heritage, and engages with the legacies of racial division in the United States.

Stochastic Labs Summer Residency

The Stochastic Labs offers fully-sponsored residencies to engineers, artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs from around the world. Residencies include a private apartment at the mansion, co-working and/or dedicated work space, shop access, a $1,000 monthly stipend and a budget for materials.

Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant

Do you have an unanticipated opportunity to present your work? Did you incur an unexpected expense that you didn’t budget for? The Foundation for Contemporary Arts offers Emergency Grants between $200 and $2,500 for visual and performing artists. They review applications once a month, so you can quickly take advantage of momentum or solve any budget errors.
Gottlieb Emergency Grant Program

This emergency grant provides financial assistance to painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation.
Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism

The Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism (ECFJ) is a grant-making program that supports artists producing innovative and revelatory journalistic work for major media outlets. Grant support will range from $500 to $5,000.
Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund

The Adobe Creative Residency program supports creators of visual digital work, offering grants of $500–$5,000 for either a portfolio project or a paid Adobe project commission.
