Artist Opportunities with Upcoming Deadlines in June and July, 2020
As regions are testing new ways of operating in light of the COVID-19 crisis, some arts organizations continue to offer open applications and calls for proposals for grants, awards, and residencies. We have made it easy to find them by compiling them below. Individual artists in financial need due to the COVID-19 outbreak can apply for unrestricted emergency funding of $5,000.
Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise
Deadline: June 10, 2020
Immigrant directors, editors, screenwriters, producers and cinematographers working across a variety of genres including narrative, documentary, experimental or animation, are invited to apply for this prize.
Bushwick Starr Pet Project Grant
Deadline: June 12, 2020
This grant will distribute 152 unrestricted cash awards of $500 each directly to US-based playwrights, any stage of their practice or career. Grantees will be chosen through a random lottery after submissions have closed.
Prairie Ronde Artist Residency
Vicksburg, Michigan
Deadline: June 15, 2020
The residency near Kalamazoo provides access to the former Lee Paper Company paper mill and its adjacent 80 acres of property to use as inspiration. Open to artists of any discipline, it includes a stipend of $2,000 for 4 – 7 weeks, a $500 travel grant, and use of a car.
Art on theMART Open Call
Deadline: June 15, 2020
This open call seeks artists to submit their qualifications to be commissioned to create an original artwork with accompanying sound as part of Art on theMART, an innovative digital public art platform. Selected artists will receive $10,000 to exhibit their work.
Critical Minded Relief Fund for Cultural Critics
Deadline: June 15, 2020
This grant offer unrestricted relief of $500 to cultural critics who are part of underrepresented communities experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Firelight Media Documentary Lab Fellowship
Deadline: June 22, 2020
This 18-month fellowship program supports filmmakers from racially and ethnically underrepresented communities working on their first or second feature length documentary film. The program provides filmmakers with customized mentorship from prominent leaders in the documentary world, funding, professional development workshops, and networking opportunities.
International Creator Residency Program
Tokyo, Japan

This residency program invites international creators in the field of visual art, film, design and architecture and to give opportunities to work in Tokyo.
Headlands Center for the Arts Residency
Marin County, California
Deadline: June 26, 2020
This program awards fully sponsored residencies to 50 local, national, and international artists. Residencies include studio space, chef-prepared meals, comfortable housing, and travel and living expense reimbursements.
Wave Farm Radio Fellowship
Hudson, New York
Deadline: June 26, 2020
This is an open call for artists who work with radio through formats like poetic resuscitations of conventional radio drama, documentary, interview and news formats. Artists receive a $15,000 stipend, support, access to the Wave Farm research library and radio studios, and more.
Media Art Residency in Creative City Košice
Košice, Slovakia

This two month residency gives a media artist from a UNESCO Creative City studio space in Košice to develop their artistic project.
Vermont Studio Center Fellowship
Johnson, Vermont

The Vermont Studio Center offers a number of fellowships for visual artists and writers. Residency opportunities include private room, private studio space, all meals, and full access to their evening programs and events.
Marin MOCA Artist in Residence
Novato, California
Deadline: July 1, 2020
This residency for emerging and established visual artists provides free studio space for one year and a stipend of $1,000. This is a live-out residency; housing is not provided.
Latino Public Broadcasting Open Applications
Deadline: July 1, 2020
The Latino Public Broadcasting has two separate open application for documentary filmmakers making films from a Latino-American perspective. Funding will help filmmakers with production and post-production funding, or with online distribution.
Mellon Foundation Call for Proposals to Community-Based Archives

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation invites community-based archives to apply for awards ranging from $50,000 to $100,000. The grants support community-based archives that represent and serve communities marginalized due to oppression.
Frieze Impact Prize
Deadline: July 3, 2020
This prize recognizes artists’ role in the movement to end mass incarceration in the US. $25,000 will go to an artist for an existing work of art that can contribute to the movement to end mass incarceration.

The Stochastic Labs offers fully-sponsored residencies to engineers, artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs from around the world. Residencies include a private apartment at the mansion, co-working and/or dedicated work space, shop access, a $1k monthly stipend and a budget for materials.
Rauschenberg Emergency Grant

NYFA and the Rasuchenberg Foundation have teamed up to offer visual and media artists and choreographers in the US grants of up to $5,000 for medical related emergencies.
Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant
Deadline: rolling basis
Do you have an unanticipated opportunity to present your work? Did you incur an unexpected expense that you didn’t budget for? The Foundation for Contemporary Arts offers Emergency Grants between $200 and $2,500 for visual and performing artists. They review applications once a month, so you can quickly take advantage of momentum or solve any budget errors.
Joan Mitchell Emergency Grant

The Joan Mitchell Foundation provides grants of up to $6,000 to US-based visual artists who have suffered significant physical losses after natural or man-made disasters.
Gottlieb Emergency Grant Program
Deadline: rolling basis
This emergency grant provides financial assistance to painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation.
Rhizome Microgrant Program
Deadline: rolling basis
The microgrant program awards $500–$1,500 to proposals with a compelling vision for net art, which considers political radicalization and the internet.
