Janine Antoni describes herself as a closeted ecstatic dancer. For the past five years, her dancing has been the secret source inspiring her sculptural work. To understand this phenomenom, she has been ferociously absorbing dance and participating in a wide range of somatic practices. In an attempt to bring this passion closer to her practice as a maker, Antoni has begun to collaborate with a diverse group of choreographers, including Jill Sigman, Stephen Petronio and, most recently, Anna Halprin. Ally is a dance made in collaboration with Anna Halprin.
