Both an art-world intervention and a working investment club, Investor Relations explores the clandestine pornography holdings of major American corporations and the context within which political policies, such as decency laws, are formed. Through Pump & Dump, an investment club built by Laura Carton and registered with the IRS, Carton can purchase stocks in corporations like General Electric, Fox and Hilton, whose holdings include companies that produce or disseminate pornography, detailing her holdings on a central website. Using strategies similar to the anti-corporate, activist-prankster collaborative, The Yes Men, Carton conducts panel discussions within the art world, as well as street demonstrations and media campaigns that illuminate the club’s findings.
