Shoemaker’s Dialogues is a series of sculptures, public programs, actions, commissioned texts and a limited edition book that contemplate a series of dialogues that were said to have taken place outside of the Agora between Socrates and Simon the Shoemaker. An installation inside the Guggenheim museum will serve as an anchor for several actions, including three off-site Dialogues, three Sole/Soul Sermons, Pedestrian Press and Ink Collection. Ink will be made from particulate matter collected in front of shoemaker and shoe repair stores in the five boroughs of New York City. This ink will be used to print commissioned texts on a large-scale roll of paper to be rolled out on the streets of New York and printed using a set of 26 shoes with letters on their soles.
