Bronzeville Etudes & Riffs

Bronzeville Etudes & Riffs is an immersive, interactive graphic novel. The setting is an impressionistic rendering of South Side Chicago, circa 1940, where distinctive recurring characters, interactive objects and dramatic tableaux populate the neighborhood. Currently being developed as a web browser app, accessible via desktop and mobile devices.

Detroit '67

This presentation of Detroit '67, by Dominique Morriseau, was part of a strategic partnership with the Public Theatre to co-produce this play as part of an Uptown/Downtown series. After a record setting run, the show will close on April 12. Please stay tuned for Classical Theatre of Harlem's next production: A Midsummer Night's Dream. Coming in July, 2013!



Detroit '67 is a collaboration of Ty Jones, Dominique Morisseau, The Public Theater, NYC and The National Black Theatre: Institute of Action Arts.

The Trimurti Trilogy

A trilogy of plays loosely based on the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, portrayed as contemporary immigrants in the West. The trilogy includes: a stand-up comedy routine, Brahman/i, a one-hijra stand-up comedy show; a girl-gang thriller, The Chronicles of Kalki; and a destructive memory play, Shiv. The work is set to premiere in repertory, Mixed Blood Theatre, Fall 2013.

Bartok's Monster

Bartok's Monster is a genre-defying book that will reconstruct a trip I took across Transylvania to retrace Bela Bartok's own expeditions, circa 1910, to collect folk songs. By synthesizing these original sources into his own music, Bartok became the preeminent avant-garde composer of the twentieth century.

In and Out of Shadows

In and Out of Shadows is a new musical that depicts stories of undocumented teenagers based on interviews. A collaboration between author Gary Soto, producer/composer Emily Klion and director Cliff Mayotte, In and Out of Shadows will tour throughout California and the US. The workshop version was performed in March 2013 at the Marsh, San Francisco.

Black & Whites is a long-form musical composition based on the photography of John Atwood and developed in part during a two month residency at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center in 2012. The main rotunda of the Art Deco bathhouse at Barton Springs in Austin, TX is transformed into an interactive projection featuring a virtual underwater representation of the Springs. Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart

Exposed on the Cliffs of the Heart will be an evening-length, interdisciplinary live performance using new sculptural technology to investigate power, self-awareness, dis/ability, sexual awakening and self-discovery. Created by a diverse group of collaborators, Exposed's final form will be an experimental run premiering in May 2013 and extending through multiple venues until November 2013.
