Seven Creative Capital artists and President Ruby Lerner will present work and join the discussion at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT, January 21-31.

Among the screenings, Film/Video artist Laura Poitras (2008) will premiere her Creative Capital-funded film, The Oath, in the U.S. Documentary Competition, and Glenda Wharton’s (2005) Creative Capital project The ZO will premiere in the U.S. Short Films section. See schedules below.

In addition to Creative Capital film premieres, Film/Video artist Sam Green (2001) will screen his recent work, and Visual Arts grantees Matthew Moore (2008) and Kalup Linzy (2008) will present work in the New Frontiers Performances and Installations section.

Creative Capital artists and leadership are also widely represented on a host of panels at this year’s event: Creative Capital President Ruby Lerner will moderate a panel of 2010 New Frontier artists, including Matthew Moore; Braden King (2005) will sit on a panel to discuss the intersection of filmmaking and science; and Sandi Dubowski (2000) will join a discussion about new approaches to film distribution.

Creative Capital and its artists have long been represented at the Sundance Film Festival. Thirteen Creative Capital artists presented work at the 2009 Festival, where Natalia Almada’s Creative Capital project El General won the Sundance U.S. Best Documentary Director Award.

This news comes as the organization launches its second decade having committed more than $20 million in financial and advisory support to 325 projects representing 406 artists. Opening this April, Creative Capital will be the subject of a six-week film retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition will feature a selection of Creative Capital-funded films, videos, and moving-image performances from the past decade, including films by Natalia Almada, Brent Green, Sam Green, Kalup Linzy, Sharon Lockhart, Bill Morrison, Alex Rivera, The Yes Men, and many more.
