Sculpture artist and photographer Karyn Olivier will reveal her Creative Capital project Inbound: Houston throughout Houston’s major freeways this fall, with a launch party hosted by DiverseWorks on October 26. A 2005 Visual Arts grantee, Olivier’s public art project features 13 commercial billboards that replace advertisements with photographs of the surrounding landscape. Olivier photographed Houston’s billboard locations and perspectives, and the resulting images were scaled to transform each billboard into a character with a constantly shifting narrative. Inbound: Houston aims to create a surreal experience that reengages commuters with their surroundings, “blurring the lines between natural and unnatural, real and fake, art and commerce.”
