a New York City-based nonprofit organization, acts as a catalyst for the
development of adventurous and imaginative ideas by supporting artists
who pursue innovation in form and/or content in the performing and visual
arts, film and video, and in emerging fields. We are committed to working
in partnership with the artists whom we fund, providing advisory services
and professional development assistance along with multi-faceted financial
aid and promotional support throughout the life of each Creative Capital
project.

JUDGE DISMISSES MAIL FRAUD CASE AGAINST BIO-ARTIST KURTZ
A federal judge has dismissed the indictment against Creative Capital artist Steve Kurtz, who was charged with counts of mail and wire fraud. Based on materials that Kurtz used in his art practice, and which were seized by the authorities, he has been under investigation for nearly four years and is reportedly "pleased and relieved that this ordeal may be coming to an end." JOHN SIMON GUGGENHEIM MEMORIAL FELLOWS
An unprecedented number of Creative Capital artists are among the 2008 John
Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation's Fellows. The seven artists to receive this honor are Natalia Almada (2005 film/video), Mason Bates (2006 performing arts), Erika Blumenfeld (2000 visual arts), Bill Daniel (2005 film/video), Rodney Evans (2008 film/video), Danny Hoch (2006 performing arts), and Ruben Ochoa (2005 visual arts). Awarded since 1925, The Guggenheim Fellowships have honored a distinguished list of creative and scholarly individuals, including more than 20 Creative Capital artists. |

NATALIA ALMADA BREAKS ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE
“My first experience that showed me how different Creative Capital is as a funder,” says film/video artist Natalia Almada, ”is that they supported the premiere of Al Otro Lado at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2005. They recognized that a successful premiere of my previous documentary would help push my career forward and be a great impulse for my Creative Capital-supported project, El General. BINARY BONANZA
The 2nd Biennial of 01SJ Global Festival of Art on the Edge, curated by Steve Dietz and presented by ZER01, unfolds across Silicon Valley June 4–8, and there within the wires are many Creative Capital artists. The core biennial exhibition, Superlight, includes new work by Cory Arcangel, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Jane Marsching, Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, Eddo Stern and Marina Zurkow. Read More... |

TOP PRIZES AT SUNDANCE
Creative Capital artists who screened at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival left Park City as the recipients of five major awards. The Grand Jury Prize Documentary went to Tia Lessin and Carl Deal for their film Trouble the Water; Lessin also received the L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth "Vision" Award; The Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award and the Alfred P. Sloan Prize were awarded to Alex Rivera for his feature Sleep Dealer; and the United States Sundance/NHK International Filmmakers Award was presented to Braden King for his project HERE. |

CHAIN OF OPPORTUNITY: RECENT AWARDS
Natalie Bookchin, Kianga Ford and Artemio Rodriguez received California Community Foundation Fellowships for the Visual Arts; the Marlon Riggs Award for Courage and Vision in the Bay Area Film Community went to Lynn Hershman Leeson for her lifetime of vanguard work to date; Brian Knep won an LEF Foundation Grant; Allison Wiese received the 2007 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award; other artists recently honored include Joanna Haigood, Rennie Harris, Alex Rivera and Edgar Arceneaux. |

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
The
Professional Development
Program was launched in 2003 to offer the career-building component
of Creative Capital's Artist Services
Program to a broader community of artists. The Professional
Development Program has served more than 1500 artists nationwide,
and features a comprehensive menu of workshops that include a Weekend
Retreat, as well as Day and Evening-long Workshops. [Visit
