Mark Shepard is an artist and architect. His Tactical Sound Garden [TSG] Toolkit, an open-source software platform for cultivating virtual sound gardens in urban public space, has been presented at the Conflux Festival in Brooklyn, ISEA in San Jose, SIGGRAPH in San Diego and venues in Manchester, Barcelona, Sao Paolo, and other cities. In 2006, Shepard co-organized Architecture and Situated Technologies, a three-day symposium bringing together researchers and practitioners from art, architecture, technology and sociology. In 2009, he curated Toward the Sentient City, an exhibition that critically explored the evolving relationship between ubiquitous computing, architecture and urban space. His awards include the George Foster Peabody Award in New Media, the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship in the Humanities, a William Graf Travel Grant, and grants from New York State Council on the Arts and the Experimental Television Center. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Architecture and Media Study at SUNY Buffalo.
