Shelley Hirsch is a vocalist, improviser, and composer. Since 1983, she has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. Her evening-length performance works include My Father Piece (2000), For Jerry (1996), and O Little Town of East New York (1991). Hirsch has recorded for over fifteen record labels, including Tellus, Innocence, and Tzadik Records. She has won multiple fellowships from both the NEA and the New York Foundation for the Arts, and received residencies from Harvestworks, the DAAD in Berlin, and others. She is the subject of two short documentaries made for German television and was the lead actress and singer in the award-winning film Wild Sound.
